What Kit is
Kit is the platform that carries postpartum care from start to finish. Finding care, booking it, scheduling it, paying for it (including with money someone has contributed toward your care), and keeping every invoice and receipt all happen in one place. Providers can’t simply sign up and advertise on Kit: every one is reviewed and approved before they can be booked.
Kit is not the care provider. The people you book through Kit are independent professionals and businesses. They bring their own professional training and judgment to your care, and they’re responsible for the care they provide. Our review covers their credentials, background check and insurance.
These terms are between you and Kit Benefits Inc., a British Columbia company. Using Kit means you accept them. Kit is available across Canada, except in Quebec for now.
Your account
You need an account to book. Keep your login to yourself, give us accurate details, and tell us if something changes. A provider is going to turn up at the address you gave. You must be old enough to enter a contract where you live.
Booking and paying
Services are priced by the provider. Kit adds its fee on top of what the provider takes home, and the price you see before you confirm is the price you pay, tax included.
How and when you’re charged depends on the service:
- A time you pick from a calendar: charged when you book. The provider confirms afterwards, and if they can’t take it you’re refunded in full.
- A service you request a time for: nothing is charged when you ask. The provider comes back with times, and you’re charged when you pick one.
- A service that has to be quoted: the provider sends a price and some times. You’re charged when you accept them. Nothing before that.
- A package of sessions: charged in full when you buy it. Once your first session has happened, the package isn’t refundable.
- Extra time on a visit that runs long: only ever charged after the provider asks and you agree to it.
Money in a Kit wallet can be spent on care through Kit. Wallet funds can’t be withdrawn as cash, and they don’t expire.
Changing or cancelling
You can cancel a booking from your bookings page. A provider can decline or cancel too. They’ll usually tell you why.
Each provider sets how much notice they need to cancel: 24 hours unless they choose otherwise. You see the exact deadline before you pay, and again beside the cancel button. The notice that applies is the one in place when you booked.
- With at least that much notice: you’re refunded in full, tax and any delivery fee included, back to where the money came from: your card, or your Kit wallet.
- With less notice, or after the visit has started: you can still cancel, but you aren’t refunded. The same goes for extra time you’d already paid for on that visit.
- Nothing paid yet: a request, a quote you haven’t accepted, or a free consult can be cancelled any time, at no cost.
- If your provider declines or cancels: you’re always refunded in full, however close to the visit it is.
- Packages: you can cancel a whole package for a full refund until your first session, as long as that session is still outside the provider’s notice. Once your first session has happened, the package isn’t refundable. Cancelling a single booked session with enough notice puts it back in your package; with less notice, that session is used up and counts as having happened.
If you book care
Before your first booking you’ll be asked to accept Kit’s Client Agreement, which covers your visits in more detail. Where the two overlap, the Client Agreement takes precedence over this page.
If you’re a provider
Providers agree to a separate Kit Provider Agreement covering payouts, conduct, insurance and the rest. It is presented when you join and takes precedence over this page where the two overlap.
Using Kit properly
You agree not to:
- take a booking off Kit to avoid fees, after Kit introduced you
- misrepresent who you are, or book on behalf of someone who hasn’t asked you to
- harass, discriminate against, or endanger anyone you meet through Kit
- try to break, scrape, or get around the security of the service
We can suspend or close an account that does these things, and we will where someone’s safety is at stake.
Health, and what Kit isn’t
Kit is not medical care and does not give medical advice. Anything in Kit (a care plan, a suggestion, a guide) is general information to help you decide what support to arrange. It is not a diagnosis or a treatment plan, and it is not a substitute for your doctor or midwife. In an emergency, call emergency services.
Where Kit’s responsibility ends
Kit is provided as it is. We work hard to keep it accurate and available, but we don’t promise it will be uninterrupted or error-free, and we’re not responsible for the acts or omissions of the independent providers you book.
Every provider carries their own insurance and liability coverage for the services they provide, and Kit carries its own.
Your provider can only care for you safely with accurate information. Please keep them up to date on anything about your health that affects your care. Neither your provider nor Kit is responsible for harm that results from information you didn’t share.
You and Kit each take responsibility for our own actions. If a claim arises because one of us was negligent or didn’t keep to these terms, that party covers the resulting losses and costs, including claims made by others.
If something goes wrong, tell us first at hello@kitbenefits.com. We’ll both make a genuine effort to resolve it. If it isn’t resolved within 30 days, either of us can refer it to mediation, and if that doesn’t settle it, to arbitration.
Nothing here removes rights you have under consumer protection law that can’t be signed away.
The legal bits
These terms are governed by the laws of the province or territory where you live, and the federal laws of Canada that apply there. If we change these terms we’ll update this page, and where a change matters we’ll tell you rather than leaving you to find it.
Questions: hello@kitbenefits.com. How we handle your information is in our privacy policy.
